A stop motion ad promoting new red, white, and blue Pup Corn dog treats for America's 250th.
Client: Sunshine Mills Inc.
For America's 250th Anniversary, Pup Corn Plus released a new flavor of red, white, and blue dog treats. When developing an ad, we knew the treats in their new colors needed to be at the forefront. The team brainstormed ideas for imagery, but there was no story. Stop motion imagery aimlessly transitioned into each other with no purpose or satisfying conclusion. After making some notes and sketches, it came to me – use the star spangled banner as a guide. We had the imagery of firework rockets and the explosions. We also knew we had to do a large flag. The bridge of the national anthem served as the perfect template. This also allowed the transitions between imagery to feel as if they exist in the same space.
After I solved the story problem, the animatic was first on the list. Stop motion animation is intricate and time consuming. A proof of concept to "pre-edit" the idea and plan out shots was essential.
Since everything was shot separately and composited together digitally, we had a toolbox of elements to rework into other assets. This Instagram post was composited together fairly quickly by rearranging elements we already had.

We also used the elements to make three posts that we pinned into a makeshift banner for our Instagram page.
